Kingman Staff Member Receives Prestigious Community Award

Tom Jonseck serves as Shift Commander supervising security operations at the Huachuca Unit at Kingman Correctional and Rehabilitation Facility (KCRF). When off duty, Lieutenant Jonseck serves Lee Williams High School as Head Coach of the wrestling team. In May of 2022, Lt. Jonseck was named Coach of the Year at Lee Williams!

New Castle Recognized for Community Support by Mooreland Fair Board

The Mooreland Free Fair is a week-long event that began in the 1930’s in Mooreland, Indiana. It has maintained free admission to all who attend since its’ inception. During the week-long fair, rides, exhibits, contests, car shows, concerts and entertainment, and even a 5K run are part of the festivities for those who attend. There are, of course, amazing food options to choose from that include typical fair foods like elephant ears, lemon shake-ups, and hot dogs; but they also offer Indiana favorites such as ham & beans, tenderloin sandwiches, and a pork chop dinner. The New Castle Correctional Facility (NCCF) has been involved with assisting with the set-up and tear down of the fair for the last six years. During the week prior to the actual event, a group of inmates assist with cleaning up the fair area and helping with the set-up. They then return right after the fair concludes to assist with the clean-up and tear down. During the week of the fair, another group of inmates assist with trash pick-up and do general clean-up prior to the start of each fair day. Mooreland Free Fair Board President, Jodie Brown recently stated, “I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate Officer Baker and his group of guys. They are all so helpful and always asking what needs to be done next. They make my job and the Board members’ jobs so much easier. They are all very good workers, and we really appreciate their help.” Facility Administrator Mark Sevier stated he was very pleased to be able to help the fair board, "We are always supportive of our local community and look forward to being able to aid in the coming years. GEO gives back to the community in so many ways throughout the year and we take pride in being a strong member of the community at large." The New Castle Correctional Facility looks forward to being able to assist the Mooreland Free Fair for many years to come.

Community Service at Scranton

Scranton Residential Reentry Center (RRC) residents continue to assist the community through community service activities. In June, residents volunteered for to the Blue-Chip Animal Refuge in Dallas, Pennsylvania.

ISAP's Earth Day CleanUp

We were proud to further our commitment to the environment by conducting cleanup activities at several locations on April 22, 2022, nationally recognized as Earth Day. Seven offices and nearly 50 employees participated in the cleanup events. The teams collected trash around their offices, at local parks, and nearby Florida beaches.

Karnes County Detention Facility Sponsors 91st Annual Chamber Banquet

The Karnes County Detention Facility was honored to be one of the sponsors for the 91st Annual Karnes City Chamber of Commerce Banquet. Staff connected with county elected officials, local business owners, and community members.

Meals on Wheels, Lending a Hand

Meals on Wheels is a non-profit organization providing meals and transportation to over 800 seniors in the Montgomery County area. Next year, the local chapter will celebrate their 50th year of operations. Their slogan, "More than a Meal" encompasses all that they do to support and enrich the lives of local seniors.

GEO Group Foundation's Generosity in Arizona

For the past seven years, The GEO Group Foundation has donated $34,000 each year to college scholarships for students in Mohave County, Arizona, home of the Kingman Correctional and Rehabilitation Facility (KCRF). That is a total of $238,000 in scholarship donations!

A Little Help Goes A Long Way!

Thanks to contributions from all departments, Broward Transitional Center (BTC) successfully closed out its first Annual Easter Bag/Basket Drive for Tedder Elementary School, a local school the facility has newly partnered with. BTC came together as a team and provided Easter Baskets for over 300 students in grades kindergarten through third grade.

BI Donates Funds to Help Local Schools

Recently, BI donated funds to three local schools in various school districts in the Boulder area. These funds were directed towards purchasing manufacturing equipment and materials to help aid teachers with teaching students about the many career paths manufacturing has to offer.

ISAP Helps Partners Overcome Pandemic Challenges by Serving the Community

New Orleans ISAP has an established connection with a local non-profit organization that had a generous amount of food donations that they were unable to provide to the community. Due to the pandemic, their in-person services were limited, and we were able to assist them with getting twenty boxes of food into the community. Fort Myers ISAP also found a unique way to support a local community partner who was struggling with limited services as well. Fort Myers ISAP has helped many participants, from mothers outfitting their newborn babies with everything they need, to clothing for men who arrive in the U.S. with nothing but what they are wearing.

NCCF Makes Special Bond with Local Elementary School

New Castle Correctional Facility (NCCF) has created a special bond with a special group of kids – those attending Wilbur Wright Elementary, specifically those on the Public Relations Leadership Team. Facility Administrator Mark Sevier made financial contributions to all ten local elementary schools, but when he heard that the poverty rate of the students at Wilbur Wright Elementary is a staggering 70%, he decided to do more. Two donations were made in the Fall of 2020, and he plans to continue partnering with them in 2021.

Eagle Pass Detention Facility Volunteers at Local County Food Bank

The South Texas Food Bank, in collaboration with the City of Eagle Pass, Maverick County, Eagle Pass Independent School District, and the Maverick County Emergency Operation Center, distributed 3,628 food items and served approximately 7,404 adults and 3,237 children.

Heritage Trail Correctional Facility Donates Funds to Child Advocacy Center

Through staff involvement in the local Rotary Club, we learned that a special program was in need of funds called “Darkness to Light Stewards of Children,” which is facilitated by Susie’s Place through the local school district. Heritage Trail Correctional Facility immediately stepped up and pledged $700 to their cause.

Supporting our Community

The Guadalupe County Correctional Facility (GCCF) loves supporting our community. Santa Rosa is a small, remote town located in the third poorest county in New Mexico. The town is over 100 miles away from any large city. We may be small and have limited resources, but we are rich in heart and community. Santa Rosa loves its youth and so does GCCF. This year, we were able to give $6,000 in scholarships to high school seniors and $5,000 to students involved in agricultural programs such as FFA and 4-H. We have been very visible in our community since the Facility opened in 1999. Our GEO logo can be seen on every athletic team shirt in town. In addition to the annual contributions we give for scholarships and agriculture, we also partner with the community on other initiatives. In the last 12 months, we gave over $30,000 to local schools to support programs and activities related to the arts, cultural awareness, e-sports, youth sports leagues, Business Professionals of America, technology, academics, agriculture, a variety of sports tournaments, and drug abuse prevention. Prior to the pandemic, we contributed the funds to the local elementary school for the 5th grade girls to attend a live ballet performance of the Nutcracker in Albuquerque. Additionally, in order to show our appreciation for our local essential workers, we made and delivered over 500 cinnamon rolls to essential workers in the community. GCCF will continue to support the community and the youth, as they are the key to our future success.

Aurora Supports Special Olympics Polar Plunge

On February 23rd, 2019, Team GEO at the Aurora ICE Processing Center did it again for the fifth year in a row winning the trophy for the Highest Fundraising team. Team GEO raised $7,710 for the Special Olympics of Colorado, led by Facility Administrator Choate as they raced from the frozen shore into the freezing water for the organization’s annual Polar Plunge event.

Broward & Corporate Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness

On Sunday, October 27th, employees from GEO’s Corporate Headquarters and Broward Transitional Center came together to support the American Cancer Society. Employees participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Florida Atlantic University’s campus. In addition to having nearly one hundred GEO employees participate in the walk, The GEO Group Foundation and Broward Transitional Center contributed $5,00and $1,000, respectively, to the American Cancer Society.

LaSalle ICE Processing Center Awards Scholarships

In 2017, LaSalle ICE Processing Center had the privilege of awarding a total of fifty-eight graduates received scholarships totaling approximately $57,000 at the scholarship reception.

Kingman Correctional and Rehabilitation Facility presented a check for $30,000 to Arizona Special Olympics

On February 15, 2017, Arizona State Prison-Kingman Warden Jeff Wrigley presented a check for $30,000 to Arizona Special Olympics on behalf of staff and inmates who combined their efforts to organize a holiday season fundraising event for the organization.

GPCF Sends a Check to the Lone Survivor Foundation

On April 14, 2017, through the generosity of Great Plains Correctional Facility staff and the Hinton community, GPCF exceeded their goal and was able to send a check to the Lone Survivor Foundation for $15,379.

The GEO Group Foundation proudly supports Angel Tree Sports Camp

In May 2017, The GEO Group Foundation proudly supported the Prison Fellowship’s June 2017 Angel Tree Sports Camp by donating $5,000 to the three-day camp. Prison Fellowship is a nationwide organization whose primary focus is inmate rehabilitation and family reconciliation.

On June 15, 2017, The GEO Group’s Eastern Region Office held the fourth annual St. Jude Classic Golf Tournament at Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation in Charlotte, North Carolina.

D. Ray James Correctional Facility participated in a 5K

D. Ray James Correctional Facility participated in a 5K run in support of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Camden County, Georgia chapter. Their 2016 event raised over $5,600 for this non-profit program.

Both Karnes Centers Donated Basketballs to the Karnes City Junior High School students' team

Both Karnes Country Correctional Center and Karnes County Residential Center teamed up to show Karnes City Junior High School students' team work by donating basketballs as a reward that will be given to two students in each grade level.

Aurora Detention Facility participated in “The Beast”

Staff at the Aurora Detention Facility participated in “The Beast”, an event where teams competes for the best time at pulling a Jet aircraft 12 feet! The event is held to support the Special Olympics, raising over $110,000 in 2016!

In January 2016, The GEO Group Foundation proudly matched the amount raised by GEO’s Corporate volunteer organization called PACE (Planning and Coordinating Events), doubling the total donated to Wounded Warriors of South Florida to $5,600.

Team Geo Made Their Third Appearance at The Polar Plunge

On February 20, 2016, Team Geo made their third appearance at the polar plunge fundraising event for the Special Olympic Athletes of Colorado, raising $8,660.55 through bake sales, taco bars, and donations from the generous hearts of the GEO family at the Aurora Detention Center. This fundraising event brought in $80,000.00 this year and since the events inception in 2009 has collected more than a million dollars.

17th annual Charity Golf Tournament

On April 30, 2016 The GEO Group’s Central Region office hosted its 17th annual Charity Golf Tournament honoring the Lone Survivor Foundation. The goal this year was to raise $150,000, however, due to the success of the silent auction, the sale of Lone Survivor t-shirts, and the generosity, dedication and determination of all those involved a goal breaking sum of $180,000 was proudly presented to the Lone Survivor Foundation.

Graduates from LaSalle High School and Jena High School Receive Scholarships from the GEO Group

Each year since the LaSalle ICE Processing Center opened in Jena, The GEO Group, Inc. has awarded a number of scholarships to deserving graduates at the two area high schools. On May 9, 2016, twelve students from LaSalle High School and Jena High School were selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship each, from The GEO Group, totaling $12,000 in monies awarded to these students, based on their grade point average at the end of the year.

Florence West and Central Arizona Correctional Facility awarded $21,000 in scholarships

On May 17, 2016, Arizona State Prison – Florence West and Central Arizona Correctional Facility awarded $21,000 in scholarships to the Florence Unified School District through The GEO Group Foundation. Recipients received a scholarship certificate along with a letter of congratulations for all hard work and academic performance.

3rd Annual St. Jude Classic Golf Tournament

On June 2, 2016, The GEO Group’s Eastern Region Office commenced the 3rd Annual St. Jude Classic Golf Tournament at Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation in Charlotte, NC. Regional Vice President, Blake Davis, along with the regional team gathered with vendors and facility staff to once again support the great charity of St. Jude! Sights were set high for the 3rd year and the goal was exceeded thanks to the generous contributions of all of the sponsors. At the end of the day, a check for $190,000 was presented to St. Jude.

Big Spring Correctional Center (BSCC) staff hosted the 4th Annual Veteran’s Day 5K Run/Walk

On November 19, 2016, Big Spring Correctional Center (BSCC) staff hosted the 4th Annual BSCC GEO Veteran’s Day 5K Run/Walk at the Big Spring State Park, raising over $2000 to benefit The Lone Survivor Foundation. BSCC has been a very proud supporter of The Lone Survivor Foundation which restores, empowers, and renews hope for our wounded service members and their families through health, wellness, and therapeutic support.

Step Up For Students Scholarship Program

On March 13, 2015, The GEO Foundation proudly donated $80,000 to the Step Up For Students Scholarship Program. Step Up For Students provides K-12 scholarships and related support to give disadvantaged families the freedom to choose the best learning options for their children.

Jamarie Lee Earns a Full Ride

During the November Bay County School Board meeting, Jamarie Lee learned he would be able to attend a four-year college on a full ride, based mostly on the $10,000 contribution made by The GEO Group Foundation. What is unique about Lee is his continued perseverance which makes him a role model for other students. Jamarie plans to study Engineering.

Communities In Schools of Palm Beach

On May 8, 2015, The GEO Group Foundation donated $5,000 to Communities In Schools of Palm Beach. The GEO Group Foundation has supported Communities In Schools for the past three years. This donation will help Communities In Schools fund prevention programs that keep students in school and on the path to graduation, college or careers that keep them on the right track.

We believe in the work this organization provides to our community and The Aurora Detention Center is proud to support Boys Hope Girls Hope!

Clayton County Commissioner Chairman Jeffery Turner was Presented a $2,000 Check

On May 1, 2015, Warden Ralph Cherry presented a $2,000 check to Clayton County Commissioner Chairman Jeffery Turner, who commended The GEO Group for its continued support of education. The GEO Group made a commitment to the Clayton County Board of Commissioners to support education through an annual $10,000 scholarship. Each of the five Commissioners receives $2,000 to provide financial assistance to college bound students in their districts.

The GEO Group Eye Gaze

In November 2015, The Arc staff recently unveiled The GEO Group Eye Gaze and Speech Center during a formal dedication ceremony. The GEO Group Eye Gaze and Speech Center features the Tobii T15, a state-of-the-art communication device that uses only an individual’s eye gaze to allow people with motor impairments to communicate their wants and needs. The device, which is similar to the technology used by world-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking, and the center are made possible thanks to a $50,000 naming gift from The GEO Group Foundation. The availability of this device will enable the students at our Potentials Charter School to communicate in ways never before possible.

The GEO Group Foundation fulfilled a request for Monarch Middle School’s Outdoor Education Club

In 2015, The GEO Group Foundation fulfilled a request for $1,500 to purchase much needed new equipment for Monarch Middle School’s Outdoor Education Club. Outdoor Education Club has been a one-of-a-kind opportunity for 7th and 8th graders, teaching them to become good stew-ards of the outdoors. With the donation from The GEO Group Foundation, they were able to procure six tents, six cooking pots, twelve fuel bottles, fuel, three backpacking stoves and two first-aid kits. The equipment purchased with this generous donation will benefit hundreds of students in the years to come.

McFarland High School awarded GEO Foundation scholarships

In 2015, McFarland High School awarded GEO Foundation scholarships to 10 students. These young men and young women were grateful for the investment in their future.

Florence West and Central Arizona Correctional Facility, Awarded Scholarships to the Florence Unified School District

In 2015, Arizona State Prison – Florence West and Central Arizona Correctional Facility, through The GEO Group Foundation, awarded a total of $21,000 in student scholarships to the Florence Unified School District. High school graduates received a scholarship certificate with a letter of congratulations. The two GEO Group facilities were honored and excited to help the Poston Butte High School seniors to fulfill their dream for higher education.

Victor Valley Rescue Mission

In 2015, The GEO Group Foundation has donated $1,000 to the Victor Valley Rescue Mission. These funds were used to provide 487 hot traditional Thanksgiving meals to poor and homeless men, women, and children, who are out of a job, or struggling with addictions. Veronica Trujillo, Community Relations Specialist representing the Victor Valley Rescue Mission, received The GEO Group Foundation donation check which was presented by Desert View MCCF employees: Michael Grebenok, AWFA, Kristine Baker, CDCR Clerk, Sandye Martinez, Bookkeeper, Andrea Alzate, Business Clerk, Tracy Rodriguez, Inmate Accounts Clerk, Cory Powers, MIS, and Donna Coapstick, Programs Manager.

The GEO Group Foundation with the help of other organizations, purchased 500 gifts

In 2014, The GEO Group Foundation with the help of other organizations, GEO’s Central Region Office, and the Rio Grande Detention Center team, purchased 500 gifts including toys, shoes, and goody bags to donate to 250 kids at three Head Start schools located in Laredo, El Cenizo, and Rio Bravo, Texas.

The GEO Group Foundation proudly donated $40,000 to the AAA Scholarship Foundation

On October 29, 2014, The GEO Group Foundation proudly donated $40,000 to the AAA Scholarship Foundation. The donation will provide scholarships to economically-disadvantaged families in Arizona, so that they may select the best educational opportunities for their children.
